About Us… Sisters Care of San Antonio is a ministry established by the U.S. Province of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1992, and made possible by a staff composed of lay people, men and women of many different religious congregations, volunteers and benefactors. Sisters Care offers in-home assistance to the frail elderly who are ineligible for city, state or Federal assistance, fall between the cracks in the system, and who need help to remain independent with dignity in their homes. Sisters Care of San Antonio accepts clients for homemaking and/or home health services on the basis of a reasonable expectation that their nursing, social, homemaking, respite and spiritual needs can me met adequately in their residence. There is a strong relational aspect to Sisters Care ministry. The elderly are considered friends. SERVICES Homemaking Care ■ Light Housekeeping ■ Meal planning and preparation ■ Laundry ■ Shopping Personal Care ■ Bathing ■ Hair Care ■ Shaving ■ Dressing ■ Medication reminder Respite Care ■ Providing reliable, compassionate care and companionship to elderly loved ones ■ Caring for a homebound person in order to give "time off" to the primary Caregiver for short periods Spiritual Care ■ Praying with clients ■ Walking with clients on their faith journey As other client needs are identified, referrals are made to appropriate community agencies. PERSONNEL The services of Sisters Care of San Antonio are performed by Caregivers who are Texas Certified Nurse Aides. Professional Staff supervises Caregivers. COST AND HOURS OF SERVICES Sisters Care is a non-profit organization. Clients who cannot afford the full fee for service are required to submit financial information. Based on this information, a determination is made as to whether or not they qualify for a subsidy. Services are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. HOW TO OBTAIN SERVICES Clients may be self-referred or referred by community agencies, church workers, friends, or family members. PHILOSOPHY We, in Sisters Care ministry, believe that the frail elderly are entitled to a quality of life permeated with love, respect, dignity, self worth, care and concern. We believe they should have access to services which provide adequate spiritual, personal, environmental, nutritional, emotional, and nursing care, which promote and enhance their dignity, regardless of their financial situation and /or religious affiliation. HOW YOU CAN HELP Fees received from clients do not meet the cost of providing services. Four-fifths of Sisters Care annual budget is raised through charitable donations, grants, and fundraising events. Sisters Care welcomes charitable donations so that we may continue serving and expanding services.
